Amelia Joe-Chandler is a metalsmith and jewelry artist who uses a variety of metals and stones to tell narrative stories of her Navajo culture. She was born in Evanston, WY and later raised on the Navajo Reservation in Newcomb, NM as well as in several BIA boarding schools near the reservation. Amelia is of the Bitter Water clan born for the Mud clan; her maternal grandparents are of the Edge of Water People and her paternal grandparents are of the Tangle People. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education from New Mexico State University. Later, she earned a Master of Science degree in art education from Indiana University with a specialty in Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design. In addition to creating metal artwork she is a full time middle school art teacher in Cortez, CO.

Her work has been exhibited at museums and galleries throughout the country. The galleries that carry her work are Home & Away Gallery, ME; River Trading Post, IL, AZ, NM; and the Museum of Northern Arizona Gift Shop, AZ.

She participates in several shows throughout the year including the Southwest Indian Arts Association (SWAIA) Indian Market, NM; Prescott Indian Market, AZ; Museum of Northern Arizona (MNA) Navajo Market Place, AZ; and the Indian Arts and Crafts Association (IACA) Wholesale Show.

Amelia has been awarded numerous honors and awards throughout her career. Most notable include IACA Artist of the Year, SWAIA second place and honorable mention; Best of Division through honorable mention at MNA; first place at Albuquerque Indian Market; first place through honorable mention at the Eiteljorg Indian Market; merit award and judges award at the Lawrence Indian Art Show. She has also been awarded various academic scholarships and art awards through New Mexico State University as well as at Indiana University.
